Join us on the 12th March 2016 for The Mighty Deerstalker, Scotland’s Original Obstacle Race.
Legend tells of a cult running event deep in the Scottish Borders whose distance is a closely guarded secret, only beknownst to the Laird, his Ghillies and anyone with a GPS watch.
This is probably the hardest off-road-Tweed-clad-pipe-lit-plus-four-and-headtorch-wearing run that exists. We send you across rivers, through forests and over a mountain or 2 in the pitch dark of a chilly March night. Many choose to ‘Stalk in their finest Tweeds of course, pipe at the ready. Choose to go Half ‘Stalker or for those who have the true minerals, take on the Full ‘Stalker. New for 2016, you can even start with the intention to go Full and bail out on to the Half if you crumble.
This isn’t a fun run, but it is extremely fun – read some of the event reviews here. Once the race is over, the Mighty Beerstalker Party takes over in a huge warm tent; with grub, ales, bands and the trademark crowdsurfing ‘til late into the night. Party access is included with every race entry. PLUS there’s our amazing camp-site under the stars. NEW for 2016 – get a free pint and a bacon roll the morning after the night before when you sign up for camping.
Don your ‘Stalker. Slàinte
“Oh, and it’s not 10K,” he ruins the surprise. “More like 15K.” The news doesn’t go down well with Grace. “Sssh – it’s only five kilometres more,” I soothe. “That’ll be like an extra 20 minutes”.
It’s an incredible sight, at least. Like something out of a sci-fi film, the headlamps of the thousands of competitors already climbing form a huge, white ring on the surface that looks eerily like something Steven Spielberg would use to contact intergalactic species.
I may not have done every 10K (“and the rest”) obstacle race in the UK, but I am left with no doubt in my mind: Rat Race Mighty Deerstalker is absolutely, unquestionably, unequivocally, the hardest.
